Rescue at Papago Park

On Wednesday, Nov 11th, Phoenix Fire & Rescue Crews were called to Papago Park to rescue a 13-year-old girl who was stuck while climbing at the infamous Hole in the Rock.

She was uninjured and the Technical Rescue Crews were able to reach her and lowered her down the mountain with a rope system called a down down operation.

City of Phoenix Park Rangers advise hiking during the early morning or evening hours this time of year when it is cooler and there is more shade.

Regardless of the weather or time of year, always hydrate before, during, and after a hike.

Follow important “Take a Hike. Do it Right.” safety guidelines.

Monitor the local forecast and understand that all trail difficulty ratings are raised one level when the temperature is 100 degrees or warmer.

Dogs are prohibited on the City of Phoenix hiking trails when the temperature is 100 degrees or warmer.
